Five Rules For Life: Grace Gold

Freelancer extraordinaire, beauty expert, former pageant princess and current fellow INTJer (Introverted iNtuitive Thinking Judging–the rarest of the 16 personality types) Grace Gold has been in the beauty biz a long time. She dabbles in many different areas from editorial to social media to publishing her own book to a bit of public relations. Because she is so savvy about so many subjects, I asked her to share her Five Rules. I especially love number 1. Here they are, in her words.
1. Don’t suck at what you do.
I don’t care if you run a coat check or run your own company – when you’re awesome at what you do, you make the world a happier place with your energy. Plus, people who rock at their jobs are 100 percent more magnetic and fun to be around.
2. Prioritize your health above all else, because no one else will.
That means your mental, physical and emotional self. When an area of your health is hurting, the deficiency will seep into every other aspect of your life. Often times, a big part of prioritizing your health involves learning how and when to say no.
3. You don’t need an occasion to pop a cork.
So stop “saving” stuff. Guess what – THIS IS IT! This is your life! So drink the good champagne, wear the good lingerie, and spritz on the good fragrance. Preferably all at the same time.
4. Accept people for who they are.
Look, we’re all just trying to survive and find some joy on this planet – and that’s easiest when you get along with people. When I’m finding that task a challenge, I play the “what’s their greatest strength?” game. We all have a survival skill that has accounted the most for getting us this far. Figuring out and learning from someone else’s unique ability (whether it’s their sense of humor, persistence or fearlessness) makes it easier to appreciate them.

5. My top beauty rule: skin is most important – so if it works, it’s always worth it.
Your skin is the very first thing people notice about you, and humans subconsciously process all kinds of signals about your identity from it. Plus, how we feel about our skin can dramatically influence how we feel about ourselves as well as how we interact with others. The skin you have is yours for a lifetime and can’t be replaced – so take very kind and careful care of it.

Thanks, Grace! Stay tuned for more Five Rules installments. “Five Rules,” is a series on Rouge18 in which I ask others to share their five rules for life about anything and everything. You can learn a lot about a person by reading which five things govern their actions, no?

I love the Five Rules series, it’s so interesting to see exactly what other people value. I completely agree with not saving things for best – how do you know when “best” is happening anyway?
