Destressing At Oasis Day Spa

The moderately priced Midtown Manhattan spa recently experienced a Tai Frasier style makeover, so I took the spa up on its offer for  a 60-minute Swedish massage, $115. Worth it!

As it’s on the basement level, it’s a little dark, but it’s more zen than depressing. The sprawling lounge, service rooms and reception areas are neat and clean with all the delightful offerings you’re used to in a spa setting: mags to catch up on your reading, cucumber water and dulcet tones in the background. My massage therapist, Dennis, did yeoman’s duty kneading my sore muscles and informed me that my right side is experiencing a whole other level of tension compared to my left. It’s likely due to my handbag and my tendency to carry things in my right hand so as not to disrupt the movement of my left so that I log fewer steps with my Jawbone UP band. I remedied that, stat.

Oasis recommends coming in at least 15 minutes before your service so you don’t render the entire thing moot by stressing out over making sure you make it and I’d agree. I also snagged a few minutes of sauna time before and after my massage to further relax into my Sunday.

Oasis Day Spa is located at 1 Park Avenue,  212-254-7722.
