5 Grown-up Ways To Rock Shimmer

Shimmer occasionally gets a bad rap thanks to its flashier counterpart: glitter. While there’s a time and place for the latter (on Halloween, in your teens and that’s really it), it’s almost always time for shimmer. Here are five ways to wear shimmer for an ethereal effect that’s all grown up.

1. Shadow Shimmer
For an awakened and relaxed look, apply shimmer to the top lid only in a neutral shade like gray, beige or pale gold. Be sure to concentrate the shadow from the crease down to the lashline for a gorgeous hint at radiance. For the most natural look, skip the liner. To get an even subtler glow, apply by dabbing with your fingertips.

2. Create A Clavicle
Add definition by dusting highlighter on your collarbones. I like using a fluffy brush to sweep a dreamy shadow like CoverGirl Eye Enhancers 1-Kit Shadows in Champagne onto my décolleté and shoulders. This also has a slimming effect, especially in off-the-shoulder garments.

3. Luminescent Lips
For a long time, cream lipstick was all the rage, but now we’re seeing a resurgence of subtle shimmery finishes. I like to use lip liner as a matte lip color and layer a shimmery lipstick over it. Two of my favorite glinting lip colors are CoverGirl LipPerfection Lipcolor in Dazzle (a pretty rose tint) and Precious (a mauve shade).

4. Cupid’s Bow Glow
Using a small lip brush, dip into a cream highlighter in shimmery white, gold or pink and apply it to the Cupid’s bow — the area between the peaks of your upper lip — for a fuller look. Be sure to blend thoroughly for the full effect.
