‘Titanic 3D’ Thoughts + The Perfect Rose DeWitt Bukater Lip

So, I saw Titanic 3D this weekend with MTV Buzzworthy’s Nicole, after we determined we’re the only grown ass women in Manhattan who wanted to go through the PSTD of seeing such a devastating flick in-theater again. The old couple scene haunted me for YEARS. Fun fact: Nicole’s actually seen the film SIXTEEN TIMES in-theater. She’s a professional.

Me, not so much. I’d seen it exactly once in-theater, and maybe one time after that. It’s not one of my repetition compulsion movies, as so many are. Watching the movie again in-theater obviously caused me to take stock of what was different in my life from the last time I saw it in 1997–and perhaps unsurprisingly, few things are different. Here’s the breakdown.

1997 in-theater thoughts on Titanic

  • LEO IS SO CUTE. Why don’t I have boyfriend? Should I be worried about that?
  • Kate’s totally too fat for this role. She’s clearly not subsisting solely on Wow chips and fat-free Entenmann’s cake, like I am. I should tell her about that diet.
  • Kate Winslet won the lip lottery. What’s on her LIPS?

2012 in-theater thoughts on Titanic

  • LEO IS SO CUTE. Why don’t I have boyfriend? Should I be worried about that?
  • Kate looks a lot more fit than I remember. Slash maybe I need to relax on the carbs.
  • Kate Winslet won the lip lottery. What’s on her LIPS?
And because I’m no longer a high school senior about to study for finals (I remember that’s what I was doing in 1997), I realized I have access to some really good Rose DeWitt Bukater Lip Color Dupes  (RDBLCD). In 1997, I replicated the look with Max Factor lip liner in Nude with some chapstick on top, which was not too shabby. Now, I opt for Kevyn Aucoin The Lip Gloss in Tammabelle, a full-on Rose lip lottery pinky-rose hue in the creamiest, most hydrating finish. Thanks to a mix of sunflower, castor and lanolin oils it won’t dry out and comes in 12 versatile shades. My favorite aspect? Its crazypants applicator mimics the look and feel of a makeup artist’s pinky finger, which isn’t as leprous as it sounds. It allows for more precise application and an easier way to glide on a goop of gloss onto more of your lip real estate (a blessing if you’re blessed with ample Rose D.B. lips) more quickly.

The Kevyn Aucoin The Lip Gloss is available for $29 at nordstrom.com, barneys.com and spacenk.com

I’m laughing my “Kate Winslet-esque” *ss off right now! Funny, but I was thinking the same things (although, not nearly as wittily as you). Her lips are FAB and as a MUA, that’s what I was watching in 3D (that and Leo). Thanks for the lip-tip!
