The MET’s Costume Institute Gala 2010: Exclusive Model Interviews & Beauty/Fashion Looks

Girls, spesh, spesh treat today. My friends at Estee Lauder have hooked me up with an exclusive beauty/fashion breakdown and Q&A with three of the brand’s models at the event (Constance Jablonski Hilary Rhoda and Liu Wen, pictured above left to right). Find out what (and who) these gorgeous gals are wearing and a bit about how they got started in the biz and what products they can’t live without.

Q&A with Constance Jablonski
BBJ: What are your top 3 must-have products?
CJ: The Bronze Goddess fragrance is my new favorite–I carry it around in my purse!  I also wear the DayWear SPF 15 lotion everyday to moisturize and prevent sun damage.  The MagnaScopic Mascara is amazing–it gives my lashes so much volume it is incredible.

BBJ: When did you decide to become a model?
CJ: My brother actually wrote into a modeling agency in France, telling them I was the most beautiful girl he has ever seen and they needed to hire me.  They called me a few weeks later and signed me – I guess they agreed!

BBJ: What’s most challenging about your job?
CJ: The most challenging thing about being a model has to be Fashion Week.  Your schedule is jam packed and you are constantly running from show to show (always late if 1 show runs over), and to have your hair and makeup done so many times in a day can be rough on your hair and skin.  It is a lot of fun, but a lot of work!

BBJ: What’s most rewarding about modeling?
CJ:  I love to travel and being a model has afforded me the chance to travel to places I never would have been able to go.  I love every part of it.

BBJ: What’s most rewarding about modeling?
CJ: Elle McPherson- because she is just so beautiful and has had such a successful modeling career.

BBJ: What are your top 3 must-have products?
HR: My top three must-have products are the Double Wear ShadowCremes because they stay on all day and come in great colors; Advanced Night Repair in the morning and night followed by Hydrationist Moisturizer, which has SPF 15.

BBJ: When did you first get involved with modeling?
HR: When I was 16, my mother and I went to a conference attended by various modeling agencies and I was signed by one of them. I moved to New York to pursue a modeling career. The Fall after I graduated from high school, I spent my first season in Paris where Nicolas Ghesquière cast me in the Balenciaga show. That really started everything else.

BBJ: What’s most challenging about modeling?
HR: Planning ahead is always hard–modeling is not a 9-5 job which is great, but makes it hard to schedule a vacation.

BBJ: What’s most rewarding about it?
HR: The most rewarding part of modeling is shooting in amazing locations and visiting gorgeous places that I would never likely get go to if I didn’t have this job.

BBJ: Who is your role model?

HR: I really admire Cindy Crawford because she is a mother, she is beautiful, she has built an empire and is involved with charities.

Q&A with Liu Wen

BBJ: What are your top 3 must-have products?
LW: I love the Double Wear ShadowCremes.  A lot of Chinese girls are unsure about wearing a lot of color on their eyelids but I love to experiment.  The range in shades is great, so I have a shadow for any look I want to do.  I also love the new Pure Color Lip Glosses (June) and the Cyber White EX, which is a whitening product (available internationally).

BBJ: When did you decide to become a model?
LW: My friends and family always told me I would be a great model so in 2008 I entered the New Silk Road World model contest and won.  I actually entered because I wanted the win the money for a new lap top computer and now I have the job of my dreams.

BBJ: What’s most challenging about your job?
LW: I was a full-time student before I started modeling so my life is very different now.  I am constantly traveling and sometimes trying to keep up with my schedule is hectic. But I am so happy to be modeling that I really can’t complain!
BBJ: What’s most rewarding about modeling?
LW: The most rewarding thing about modeling was getting my first big job–signing with Estée Lauder!  When I was little, I would look at advertisements for Estée Lauder and dreamt about being in the ads.  It is honestly my dream job.

BBJ: Who is your role model?
LW: I think Gong Li is a great role model because she is gorgeous, friendly and a great influencer in China.  I got to meet her a few weeks ago at a store opening in Shanghai and she was so nice and welcoming. I felt so lucky to meet her.

Vegan brushes are different than natural hair brushes as they are made with synthetic materials and not animal hair. In my experience they are equal to, if not better than, animal hair brushes. They do not shed or break off like animal hair, they are easy to clean, and they retain their softness over time. (My own brush is 4 years old and still soft and works wonderfully!)To clean a vegan brush use anti-bacterial dish soap. This will remove bacteria from the brush that may be on there from facial oils, transferred from hands, etc.Simply put a drop or two of dish soap into a coffee cup or shallow glass and add about 1 1/2″ of warm (not hot) water, just so it doesn’t go past the bristles into the metal handle. Swirl around the brush really well but gently, dump, add more water, and keep going until the water is clear. With a Kabuki brush you can gently squeeze the bristles out and gently shape with your hand. With eye shadow, concealer, powder and other brushes refrain from squeezing the bristles if possible.Put the brush with the bristles pointing downward to dry so any water drains out and not into the handle. If too much water gets into the handle the bristles could fall out as they are glued into the handle. You can wash it as often as it gets dirty. You can actually feel when the brush has too much makeup packed in it, it doesn’t glide across your skin as easily. I wash my Kabuki about every 2-3 weeks and I use it daily. The large Kabuki brushes take about 24 hours to air dry, the others easily dry overnight.

All three women are beautiful! I love EL products and can’t get enough of them! The dresses are gorgeous. I have used EL cosmetics since I was in high school and I am now in my late 30’s. I especially love the Michael Kors line.

    Hey anon,

Thank you! This was an email interview through EL and I assumed they’d given me the names left to right in the pic. I’ve corrected the post.
