Gorge Backstage Beauty Stylin’ at Jenni Kayne

By Liz Shayala

Downtown Chic was the all-encompassing theme for the Jenni Kanye Spring 2010 collection. Stila makeup artist Sarah Lucero for Beauty.com created a look that could make any trend-watcher unquestionably convinced that navy is the new black.

She used Navy Eye Palette, Sapphire Kajal Liner and Indigo Eye Shadow to create a smudgy elongated cat eye with smoky edges. The lashes were made funky and chunky by 4 thick coats of Major, Major Lash Mascara. The lip was lined with Kajal Liner in Topaz to neutralize any natural pink tones and filled in with In the Nude long wear lip, which kept the whole look sultry sans desperation.

The hair was given a deep side part and thrown back into an effortlessly breezy loose bun. Crafted by the ridiculously talented Ted Gibson for Beauty.com, the coiffure was the perfect balance of uptown chic and downtown cool. Gibson used Tame it (a personal fave!) to add shine and then finished it off with Beautiful Hold Hairspray.
